Bio:
I am an urban housing and community sociology specialist who received my PhD in Sociology and Urban Planning from the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT in 2008. I also hold a Master of Urban Planning and Policy from the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago (2001), as well as a B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University (1997). My dissertation, “Constructing community: Class, Privatization, and Social life in a Boston Mixed-Income Housing Development,” examined the transformation of the East Boston Maverick Gardens public housing development under the auspices of HUD’s HOPE VI Program. This work received the “Outstanding Dissertation Award” from MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning. I also did my Post Doctoral work at MIT with funding from the MacArthur Foundation where we examined Chicago's historic efforts to redevelop their public housing stock, much of it into mixed-income housing.
Erin,
ReplyDeleteWould it be possible to have a conversation sometime about mixed-income development. I have been working in the area and testified to congress a year ago about some issues surrounding these initiatives. I would be very interested in hearing about your work and receiving a copy of your forthcoming piece in JAPA. Also, Diane Levy and some other people are shopping around a proposal for a special issue on the future of mixed-income, and James Defilippis and I are thinking about doing an edited volume, which would be nice to include your work. Erin,
ReplyDeleteYou may not remember us, but my wife Chrissy and I lived in Maverick Landing when you were there doing research for your dissertation. I just found your final paper and think it's fascinating! Are you still in the Boston area? If so, a few of us in the neighborhood would like to get together to discuss your findings. We no longer live in Maverick Landing, but we are still in East Boston and have some important connections to our old neighborhood. Would love to discuss sometime. Drop me a note when you get a chance!
